Hi everyone. Newbie from the Southampton area.
I received my practice locks waiting for the Valyrian pick set to arrive and wondering how to explain to the Missus that the monthly online expense account is going to grow exponentially if I get hooked on this hobby. Seeing the other newbie posts I will now go and read the RULES properly.. :)

Hi @Pinetown , this hobby doesn't have to be that expensive! Once you have a decent pickset, you can find locks in numerous places like fleamarkets, ebay, carbootsales, locksmiths, etcetera. And ofcourse there are some traveling locksets on this forum.

Happy picking!

Thanks, Shurelock,

Made two 0r maybe three Newbie mistakes already....... One training lock is a dimple (no picks).......bought a set of crappy german locks at Lidl for practice....and they appear to be some kind of disc or wafer lock..... aaaand I am now not sure that the Valyrian pick set I ordered will fit UK ane Euro locks..........curses!

The valerian set will be just fine.
I would seriously recommend a vise, but they are really cheap
Welcome !!

If it's a simple dimple lock, you could always have a go with a small half-diamond pick if you have one ... not ideal but certainly works ;)

You must always remember, it's the lock that chooses the pick, not you.

Howdy @Pinetown welc
Not everyone uses a vice, I bought one but it was so crappy I ended up picking the locks in hand instead and havn't started with a vice since.
I only use it to hold stuff when I take pictures now and then ;P
I'm planning on making a lock holding block though.. some piece of plank and a screw to retain the locks.
